Due to the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, IIT Roorkee has made changes to the test centers for candidates who had opted for Prayagraj as their exam city. These candidates will now be allotted new centers in Lucknow. The revised admit cards reflecting the updated exam venue details have been issued. Candidates must download and carry the latest version of their admit cards to the examination hall.
Exam Pattern and Test Papers Available in GATE 2025
Candidates can appear for one or two out of the 30 test papers available.
The examination for all subjects will be conducted in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.
Questions will be displayed on the computer screen, and candidates must enter their responses digitally.
The exam will consist of three types of questions:
Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) – Only one correct answer among multiple options.

GATE 2025 Exam Day Guidelines: Mandatory Instructions for Candidates
Candidates must strictly adhere to the following guidelines on the day of the examination to avoid any disqualification:
Reporting Time: Candidates must report at least 60 minutes before the exam starts. No entry will be allowed after the gates close.
Admit Card & ID Proof: Carry a printed copy of the admit card along with a valid government-issued photo ID proof (Aadhaar card, Passport, PAN card, Driving License, or Voter ID).
Security Checks: Candidates will undergo biometric verification, including fingerprint and/or photograph capture. Avoid using ink, mehendi, or tattoos on fingers to ensure smooth verification.
Electronic Devices Prohibited: Personal calculators, mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, smartwatches, and any other electronic gadgets are strictly prohibited inside the exam hall.
Stationery Restrictions: Books, notebooks, charts, loose sheets, papers, data handbooks, or any other study material are not allowed inside the exam hall.
Scribble Pad for Rough Work: Candidates will be provided with a scribble pad for rough work.
The name and registration number must be written on the scribble pad before use.
Only one scribble pad is allowed at a time. To receive a new one, candidates must return the first scribble pad to the invigilator.
At the end of the exam, all scribble pads must be returned.
Virtual Calculator: A scientific calculator will be available on the computer screen for calculations. Candidates must use this virtual calculator as personal calculators are not allowed.
No Personal Belongings Allowed: GATE officials will not be responsible for any personal belongings left outside the exam hall.
Strict Disciplinary Actions for Malpractice: Any candidate found violating exam rules, including cheating or tampering with computer systems, will face immediate disqualification and further legal action.
