New Delhi: Indian people who intend to participate in the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in 2026 are urged by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to make sure they have the necessary travel credentials before departing India. The advisory follows reports of several Indian devotees becoming stranded in Nepal after private tour operators allegedly failed to secure the necessary permits required for entry into China. The ministry emphasised that pilgrims travelling through private travel agencies should not begin their journey unless every mandatory document, including Chinese travel permits and visas, has been officially approved. Authorities cautioned that pilgrims who begin their journey without proper documentation may find themselves stranded in Nepal with no immediate way to continue their spiritual journey.

MEA Responds After Multiple Requests for Assistance

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, it has received several distress requests from Indian nationals who were unable to proceed beyond Nepal due to incomplete paperwork arranged by private tour operators. The ministry stated that many pilgrims reached Kathmandu expecting the remaining permits to be issued later. However, they were unable to enter Tibet due to a lack of legitimate Chinese entry permits, so they were left stuck and had to ask Indian officials for help. Officials stressed that pilgrims should only begin their journey after confirming that all travel permissions have been granted.
