New Delhi: The investigation into the alleged gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl at Delhis Aastha Kunj Park has brought renewed attention to the security arrangements inside the sprawling green space. Police are now examining whether one of the accused had a history of troubling visitors and whether earlier warnings from people familiar with the park were overlooked. According to investigators, local visitors and people working around the park had previously seen Asif, one of the three accused, carrying a knife. He was also allegedly known for troubling couples who visited the area. However, despite some people reportedly raising the issue verbally with park staff and security guards, no formal police complaint appears to have been registered against him before the latest incident.

Police Investigating Previous Complaints

A senior police officer said investigators are now speaking to people who regularly visit the park as they try to establish whether the accused had been involved in similar incidents in the past. Police have reportedly received information that Asif was often seen with a knife and that the three accused may have harassed couples in the area. Crime Reportedly Took Place on Monday Evening

The alleged sexual assault took place on Monday evening, when the 17-year-old girl visited Aastha Kunj Park with a 17-year-old male friend. According to the police investigation, the two were in the park at around 7:15 pm to 7:30 pm when the accused allegedly approached them. The men are accused of posing as police officers and threatening the teenagers. Police have identified the accused as Asif, 30, Mukesh Singh, 24, and Hemant Singh, 31. Investigators allege that the girl was subsequently taken to a secluded part of the park, where the sexual assault took place. The investigation is continuing and authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Three Suspects Arrested

The police arrested all three accused following the incident. Asif was reportedly apprehended early Tuesday morning in the Amar Colony area. Police said an exchange of fire took place during the operation and that Asif sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. According to investigators, a firearm believed to be unlicensed and a knife were recovered from his possession. The other two suspects, identified as brothers Mukesh Singh and Hemant Singh, were later arrested from their residence in the Sri Niwaspuri area. The case has also raised questions about security inside Aastha Kunj Park, which covers approximately 142 acres near Kalkaji Temple.
