New Delhi: The Delhi Government has officially started the registration process for the Delhi Laxmi Yojana, a major welfare initiative aimed at providing monthly financial assistance to eligible women across the national capital. On August 1, the online registration system went live, enabling women who fit the requirements to apply for a ₹2,500 monthly stipend. Through her official X account, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the program's launch, claiming that its goal is to improve women's financial standing and enable them to become more independent. With this project, the Delhi Government wants to provide direct financial support to lakhs of women from economically poorer homes.

Registration Portal Goes Live

Women who wish to avail themselves of the benefits under the Delhi Laxmi Yojana can now complete their registration through the official online portal. The government has made the application process completely digital to ensure transparency and reduce paperwork. Applicants will be required to submit personal details, upload the necessary documents and complete the verification process online. Citizens are warned by authorities to only use the official portal and to stay away from phony websites or intermediaries that promise registration or clearance.

Scheme Aims to Empower Women Financially

The Delhi Laxmi Yojana has been introduced with the objective of providing regular financial support to women belonging to low-income households. Monthly financial aid, according to the government, will help women better manage home expenses, increase their financial stability, and lessen their reliance on others. The program, which encourages savings and allows users to actively contribute to their family's financial well-being, has been hailed by officials as a significant step toward women's economic empowerment.

More Than 17 Lakh Women Expected to Benefit

The Delhi Government has allocated ₹5,110 crore for the implementation of the Delhi Laxmi Yojana in the 202627 Budget. According to official estimates, more than 17 lakh women are expected to benefit from the scheme. The government considers it one of the largest women-centric welfare programmes introduced in the capital, with the goal of ensuring that financial assistance reaches genuinely deserving families through a transparent and accountable system.

Who Is Eligible for the Delhi Laxmi Yojana?

Under the guidelines issued by the Delhi Government, only women who fulfil all eligibility conditions will receive the monthly assistance. The applicant must be between 21 and 60 years of age, and her family's annual income should not exceed ₹2.5 lakh. Another important requirement is that the applicant or her family must have been residing in Delhi for at least 10 years. The government has also clarified that only one woman from each family will be eligible for the scheme. If multiple women in the same household satisfy the eligibility criteria, the eldest eligible woman will be considered the beneficiary.

Who Will Not Get the Benefit?

To ensure that the financial assistance reaches only economically weaker sections, the government has laid down strict exclusion criteria. Women who pay Income Tax or file GST returns will not be eligible for the scheme. Similarly, government employees and women whose family members are employed in government departments or Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have been kept outside its ambit. Applicants already receiving financial assistance under another government cash-benefit scheme will also not qualify. Families owning a four-wheeler vehicle or consuming more than 2,400 units of electricity annually have also been excluded. In addition, women having more than three children or those with a criminal record will not be eligible for the monthly financial assistance.

How Will the ₹2,500 Be Transferred?

The Delhi Government has provided beneficiaries with two payment options. Under the first option, ₹1,500 will be deposited every month into a Recurring Deposit (RD) or Fixed Deposit (FD) account, while the remaining ₹1,000 will be credited to a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet. The CBDC amount can be used only for purchasing government-approved essential goods. Under the second option, beneficiaries who do not wish to use the digital wallet can choose to receive the entire ₹2,500 directly into their RD or FD-linked bank account, depending on the option selected during registration.

Documents Required for Registration

Women planning to apply for the scheme should keep all necessary documents ready before beginning the registration process. These generally include an Aadhaar Card, proof of residence, income certificate, bank account details, an Aadhaar-linked mobile number, a passport-size photograph, and any additional documents that may be required during verification. Officials have warned that applications containing incorrect information or forged documents may be rejected after scrutiny.

Government Urges Applicants to Apply Carefully

The Delhi Government has appealed to eligible women to complete the registration process through the official portal at the earliest. Authorities have also advised applicants to carefully read all eligibility conditions before submitting their forms, as applications failing to meet the prescribed criteria will not be approved. The government has emphasized that the scheme is intended exclusively for financially weaker women and that strict verification will be carried out before releasing any payments.
