In a visionary step towards sustainable healthcare, Auroville has launched a groundbreaking Vision Wellness Initiative, focusing on natural methods to correct and prevent vision impairments. Designed to benefit Aurovilians, visitors, and the broader bio-region, the program places a strong emphasis on children and parents, who are increasingly affected by eye strain and digital fatigue.
The initiative was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, with distinguished guests in attendance, including Jayanti S. Ravi, Secretary of the Auroville Foundation and Gujarat Additional Chief Secretary, alongside Janmajai, trustee of Bharat Nivas, and representatives Santoshé and Mangaldha from the Sri Aurobindo Ashram.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Ravi underscored the initiative’s significance. “This program is a step toward restoring natural vision health and reducing dependency on corrective lenses. By integrating holistic techniques, we aim to empower individuals with sustainable solutions for better eyesight and overall well-being.”
Revolutionizing Eye Care Through Holistic Practices
Moving away from conventional treatments like prescription glasses and surgeries, Auroville’s approach focuses on scientifically-backed natural therapies that enhance and protect vision. These include:
- Eye Yoga – Specialized exercises designed to strengthen eye muscles, enhance focus, and reduce strain.
- Therapeutic Eye Massages – Stimulating circulation and relaxation, helping to alleviate eye fatigue.
- Vision Therapy – Personalized treatments addressing common conditions like myopia, which is rapidly increasing among children due to prolonged screen exposure.
Aurokiya Integral Eye Centre to Lead the Initiative
The initiative will be spearheaded by Vengadesan Natarajan, founder of the Aurokiya Integral Eye Centre in Auroville. The center has been at the forefront of preventive eye care, promoting long-term vision wellness through non-invasive methods and lifestyle interventions.
Auroville’s Vision Wellness Initiative is more than just an eye care program—it is a movement towards a healthier, screen-conscious society, setting a precedent for how communities can embrace natural vision correction and preventive care. As digital dependency continues to rise, this initiative stands as a beacon of innovation, championing a future where clear vision is nurtured naturally.
