In a move set to redefine inter-airport connectivity in the Delhi-NCR region, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is planning an ambitious 5-km elevated metro corridor linking Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi with the upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar. By establishing smooth transit between two of India's major airports, this project seeks to improve passenger convenience overall, increase regional accessibility, and shorten travel times.

Awaiting Uttar Pradesh Government Approval
 

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is in the process of finalizing its comprehensive proposal for submission to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for evaluation and endorsement. The successful implementation of the project is contingent upon obtaining adequate financial support and requisite approvals from state officials.

Arun Vir Singh, Chief Executive Officer of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), underscored that financial arrangements and operational plans will significantly influence the project's timeline and execution.

Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj: A Crucial Metro Extension

In addition to the airport corridor, the DMRC is actively working on a short metro stretch connecting Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj. As a crucial component of a massive ₹950 crore infrastructure project aimed at enhancing urban transportation, this corridor will serve as an extension of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad metro line.

Key Benefits of the Tughlakabad-Kalindi Kunj Corridor:

• Seamless Interchange Access: Connectivity with Delhi Metro’s Blue Line, Magenta Line, and Noida Metro’s Aqua Line.

It is anticipated that the corridor will improve last-mile connection between South Delhi, Noida, and surrounding districts while also drastically cutting down on travel time.
 

Rapid Rail: An Alternative Plan in Motion

Earlier, the DMRC had prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a direct metro corridor connecting IGI Airport and Noida International Airport via the expressway. However, this plan was later set aside when the Uttar Pradesh government prioritized a 72-km rapid rail corridor project.

The proposed rapid rail corridor will link Noida International Airport with Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, offering a high-speed transit alternative for thousands of daily passengers.
