According to Dr Rao's description, the young man experienced a rapid heartbeat before he had even started lifting weights. He then developed pain behind his right eye. The situation quickly became more serious when he noticed weakness in his left arm. He was taken to hospital, where doctors reportedly found that his blood pressure had reached 210/130 mmHg. A brain scan showed a deep intracerebral bleed, according to Dr Rao. The doctor described the event as a hypertensive intracerebral haemorrhage, saying that the stimulant exposure triggered a severe rise in blood pressure and contributed to the bleeding. The patient required surgery and survived, although Dr Rao said he continued to have difficulty using his left hand during recovery.
