In a shocking crime of passion and deception, the Ahmedabad Rural Police have arrested a married couple for a brutal attack on the wife's former fiancé in broad daylight. The accused, Rinku Patel and her husband Sandeep Patel, have been booked under Sections 109(1) and 60 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempting to murder her ex-fiancé, Jaykumar Patel.

The horrifying incident took place on the morning of February 25 near the Sun and Sky View site in Shela. According to police reports, Rinku Patel first rammed her car into the scooter of her former fiancé, knocking him to the ground. Without hesitation, she then stabbed him multiple times, leaving him seriously injured.

Investigators later uncovered that her husband, Sandeep Patel, played a key role in the planning and execution of the attack, as he was misled by Rinku into believing that Jaykumar was harassing her online.

Jealousy, Lies, and a Web of Deception Lead to Violence

At first glance, the case appeared to be driven by jealousy, but further investigation revealed a deeper and more twisted narrative. Rinku Patel was reportedly furious after Jaykumar blocked her number, cutting off all communication. This act of rejection seemingly pushed her over the edge.

In an attempt to involve her husband, she lied to Sandeep, telling him that an anonymous person was harassing her online. This false claim enraged Sandeep, prompting him to assist her in carrying out the brutal attack on Jaykumar.

A Broken Engagement and a Reignited Connection That Led to Disaster

Rinku Patel and Jaykumar Patel were engaged 13 years ago, with their families closely bonded by another engagement—Rinku’s brother was set to marry Jaykumar’s sister. However, both engagements were abruptly called off, and the reasons remain undisclosed.

Following their separation, Rinku went on to marry Sandeep Patel from Nandasan, while Jaykumar moved on, focusing on his business and marrying another woman in 2016.

Years passed, but fate intervened during Diwali last year, when Rinku and Jaykumar reconnected through social media after years of silence. Their frequent conversations soon aroused the suspicions of Sandeep Patel.

From Virtual Friendship to Deadly Consequences

Sandeep confronted his wife after noticing her growing closeness with Jaykumar. Instead of admitting the truth, Rinku fabricated a story that she was being harassed online.

Determined to get answers, Sandeep attempted to contact Jaykumar, but he was shocked to find that both his and Rinku’s phone numbers had been blocked. This further fueled his suspicions and anger.

Jaykumar was immediately rushed to Saraswati Hospital on Bopal-Ambli Road, where he received emergency medical care.

Following the attack, the couple went into hiding. Investigators searched their rented house in Kadi, Mehsana, but it was locked and abandoned. Despite their attempts to trace them using technical surveillance, the couple had switched off their phones, making it difficult to track them.

However, on Monday evening, the police received a tip-off about their whereabouts. Acting swiftly, a team of officers set up a trap near Vaishnodevi Circle on SG Highway. Late that night, Rinku and Sandeep were arrested.

The police are now searching for the weapon used in the attack, as the knife has yet to be recovered.
