Ahmedabad’s iconic Jagannath Temple is poised for a historic transformation with the launch of the Jagannath Mandir Corridor, an ambitious redevelopment project inspired by the famed Kashi Vishwanath Corridor. Spearheaded by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), this ₹155 crore initiative seeks to seamlessly connect 35 ancient temples through a 2-kilometer heritage trail, enriching the spiritual and cultural fabric of the city.

Project Highlights: A Heritage Trail with Modern Infrastructure

The corridor will begin at Vasant Chowk and extend to the Jagannath Temple, passing through significant landmarks like the Ganesh Temple and Saptarshi No Aaro. Following the traditional Jal Yatra route, the trail aims to create a continuous and immersive spiritual journey.

To enhance the pilgrimage experience, the project will include:

1. Heritage Squares and Gardens: Restored temple squares and gardens will reflect the city’s historical charm while offering serene spaces for reflection.
2. Heritage Interpretation Center: A 1,600-square-meter center at Tilak Bag will showcase Ahmedabad’s rich cultural and religious legacy.
3. Multilevel Parking Facility: A modern parking structure with a capacity of 750 vehicles will address traffic congestion, especially during large festivals like the Rath Yatra.
4. Devotee Plaza: A grand visiting plaza outside the Jagannath Temple will accommodate up to 4,000 worshippers, ensuring a comfortable and spacious environment for devotees.

Phased Development for Comprehensive Transformation

The project will be executed in three key phases, each designed to preserve the historical essence of the area while introducing modern amenities:

• Phase 1: Renovation of temples near Vasant Chowk and Rambari, focusing on restoring their architectural beauty while maintaining their historical significance.
• Phase 2: Development of a grand plaza in front of the Jagannath Temple and restoration of temples near Saptarshi No Aaro. A majestic heritage gate along the Sabarmati River will add grandeur to the trail.
• Phase 3: Construction of the heritage interpretation center and the multilevel parking facility at Tilak Bag.
