Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using the recent bomb threats to Delhi schools as a political tool. Singh's remarks came after Delhi Police claimed that a student arrested in connection with the threats had links to an NGO that allegedly supports a political party.
Singh criticized the BJP for politicizing the issue, stating that the bomb threats to school children had first surfaced in May 2024. Despite the gravity of the situation, Singh pointed out that it took almost nine months for the police to make a statement, while BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi held a press conference just weeks before the elections. Singh suggested that the BJP's claims were exaggerated and based on "fabricated stories."
Addressing the media, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi had earlier alleged that several bomb threats received by schools in Delhi over the past months were traced to a juvenile linked to an NGO involved in politically charged activities. Trivedi's statements also mentioned the connection of this NGO to protests against the 2013 hanging of Afzal Guru, linking them to AAP's leadership.
Trivedi further claimed that the family of Delhi CM Atishi, who had supported a clemency petition for Afzal Guru, was tied to these NGOs. He called for an explanation from AAP, questioning whether these NGOs had any influence over vulnerable young minds.
In response, Singh urged the BJP to stop turning serious threats into political fodder and focus on ensuring the safety of Delhi's children, accusing them of stirring unnecessary controversy ahead of the elections.
