As Dehradun prepares for the upcoming New Year celebrations, the city’s administration is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring smooth traffic flow, enhanced security, and a hassle-free experience for thousands of tourists and locals. With the Christmas season, the Winter Line Carnival, and the New Year festivities drawing large crowds, the local authorities have planned a detailed approach to manage the expected traffic surge, especially on the routes to Mussoorie.
Strategic Traffic Control for a Smooth Experience
To tackle potential congestion, Dehradun has developed a robust traffic management plan. A total of 233 checkpoints have been set up across the city to regulate the movement of vehicles and ensure safety. The major routes leading to Mussoorie, a prime tourist destination, will be closely monitored with drone surveillance. Along with this, police personnel on horseback will patrol crowded areas to maintain order during peak hours.
The authorities are also implementing a one-way traffic system along key routes, including from Library Chowk to Picture Palace, to avoid traffic bottlenecks. Vehicles traveling from Ambedkar parking will be directed via Camel Back Road towards Kulri Police Checkpost. If congestion at Library Chowk becomes unmanageable, traffic will be redirected to alternate routes like Spring Road to ease the flow.
Special Shuttles and Real-Time Parking Updates
This year, to ease parking issues and minimize traffic jams in Mussoorie, shuttle services will be introduced for the first time. These shuttles will pick up tourists from strategic points, such as King Craig, Gajji Band, and Kuthal Gate, transporting them to their destinations within Mussoorie. This will help reduce the number of cars on the roads, alleviating some of the congestion.
Additionally, tourists will have access to real-time parking updates through a specially designed app. Hotel businesses will update the app about available parking spaces, allowing visitors to plan their travel accordingly. Mussoorie has 12 parking lots that can accommodate 3,065 cars, 20 buses, and 100 two-wheelers, ensuring ample space for tourists during the festive rush.
Designated Routes for Out-of-State Vehicles
With a surge in visitors expected from neighboring states like Delhi and Haridwar, the traffic police have devised special routes to facilitate smooth entry into Mussoorie. Vehicles coming from Delhi and Saharanpur will pass through Mohand-Asarodi and enter Mussoorie via Kuthal Gate. Meanwhile, vehicles from Haridwar and Rishikesh will follow the Jogi Wala and Sai Mandir Tirahe route to avoid traffic congestion.
The city will also feature 18 traffic barriers and 18 diversion points to manage the flow of vehicles, especially at peak times. In addition, six cranes will be available to clear road obstructions caused by parked vehicles.
Comprehensive Safety Measures and Surveillance
Dehradun Police, led by Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh, has assured the public of their readiness to manage the upcoming festive crowds. Modern traffic control measures, including surveillance via 536 smart city cameras and 166 police cameras, will keep a close watch on the key routes and ensure compliance with traffic laws.
The police have also deployed traffic inspectors in specific areas of Mussoorie, with additional personnel monitoring all crucial points. These steps will help maintain order while also providing a secure environment for the thousands of visitors.
Looking Forward to a Smooth Festive Season
With the combination of traffic planning, shuttle services, real-time updates, and increased police presence, Dehradun is set to offer a seamless experience for everyone visiting the city during the holiday season. By focusing on smart traffic control, efficient use of technology, and stringent law enforcement, the authorities are optimistic that the celebrations will remain joyful and safe for all.
