Veteran filmmaker Boney Kapoor has spoken out in defense of Telugu superstar Allu Arjun, who is facing legal challenges following a tragic incident during the release of his blockbuster Pushpa 2: The Rule. Kapoor criticized the allegations against Arjun as baseless, emphasizing that the fan’s unfortunate death was caused by overwhelming crowd management issues rather than any deliberate actions by the actor.

Boney Kapoor on South Indian Fan Craze

In a recent discussion at the Galatta Plus filmmakers’ roundtable, Boney Kapoor shared his experience with the extraordinary devotion of South Indian cinema fans. He described witnessing tens of thousands of fans gathering for an early-morning screening of an Ajith Kumar film.

“When I attended Ajith’s 1 AM show, I was amazed to see over 20,000 fans outside the theatre. Even when I left hours later, the crowd hadn’t reduced,” he said, highlighting the unparalleled fan fervor for South Indian stars like Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Jr NTR, Ram Charan, and Allu Arjun.

Connecting his experience to the Pushpa 2 controversy, Kapoor pointed out, “Such fanfare often leads to chaos during big releases, especially when ticket rates are inflated for the first day or special shows. It’s unfair to blame Allu Arjun for a tragedy caused by the crowd's size and enthusiasm.”

The Pushpa 2 Stampede: What Really Happened?

On December 4, a special screening of Pushpa 2: The Rule was held at Hyderabad's Sandhya Theatre. Allu Arjun, accompanied by co-star Rashmika Mandanna and his wife Sneha Reddy, surprised fans by attending the event.
