In a startling series of events on Monday morning, several reputed schools in Delhi, including Delhi Public School (DPS) RK Puram, GD Goenka School Paschim Vihar, and others, were subjected to bomb threats via email. The incident triggered mass evacuations and a flurry of activity as authorities raced against time to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Details of the Threats
The first email was received at DPS RK Puram at 7:06 AM, followed by a similar message at GD Goenka School at 6:15 AM. According to officials, the email claimed that multiple bombs had been planted within the school buildings. It read: "I planted multiple bombs inside school buildings. The bombs are small and hidden very well. It will not cause much damage to the building, but many people will be injured when the bombs detonate. If I do not receive ,000, I will detonate the bombs."
The emails were not limited to these two schools. Over 40 institutions, including Mother Mary’s School, British School, Salwan Public School, and Cambridge School, also received similar threats, sending shockwaves through the city.
Swift Response from Schools and Authorities
School administrations acted promptly by evacuating students and informing the authorities. The Delhi Police, along with the fire department, bomb disposal squads, and dog squads, conducted thorough search operations in the affected schools. By late afternoon, no suspicious objects had been found, but investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the threatening emails.
Delhi Police PRO Sanjay Tyagi assured parents, saying: "We are taking all possible measures to ensure the safety of children and schools. Our teams are working diligently to trace the email sender, and strict action will be taken."
Political Reactions and Public Concerns
The incident has attracted significant criticism from political leaders. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia voiced his concerns, stating: "It is profoundly concerning that educational institutions, which are meant to foster learning and development, are being subjected to such targeting."The BJP-led central government has failed to ensure safety in the capital. Children deserve a secure environment."
Recurring Pattern of Hoax Threats
This isn’t the first time such threats have disrupted schools in Delhi. Just a week ago, Rohini’s Venkateshwar Global School received a similar bomb threat, which turned out to be a hoax. In November, multiple CRPF-run schools across Delhi and other states were also targeted with false alarms.
A Larger Context of Security Challenges
The recent threats highlight a growing trend of anonymous emails and calls targeting public places. In Uttar Pradesh, bomb threats at metro stations, railway stations, and bus stands have been reported. Even iconic landmarks like the Taj Mahal have been targeted. In Mumbai, a WhatsApp message threatening a bomb blast aimed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi was received recently, raising concerns about national security.
